"We are called to sing along – in creation's joyous song."

Hymns

Hymns are notes left on the path by Christ-followers who have gone before us in terms of time or experience. These notes along the way help us pray, help us praise, help us hang in there when times are tough. Hymns carry much of the theology of the pews. Hymns are often an indication of how we think God relates to our culture and current issues.

Anthems

Anthems are the choral genre that the congregation can’t sing, but they can say “Amen” to. In terms of subject matter and language, anthems are much like the congregation’s hymns, but musically, anthems explore the text a bit more intricately. Words and phrases can be nuanced, creating musical commentary. The choir’s anthems minister to the congregation and add an enriching facet to worship.

Poetry sharpens our spiritual vision.

Accompaniments are a musician’s way of celebrating this truth in performance. Authors, composers, arrangers, accompanists, these contributors and more are often the team that makes the music that moves us and facilitates our worship.

Sermons & Essays

If we are to worship in spirit and in truth, our worship must connect with life. Sermons and essays pause to think a bit more deeply about life and scripture and living theologically in context. Sermons and essays wrestle with questions even more than they seek or reveal answers. Both hearts and minds are stirred; both emotion and intellect are called forth. Sermons and essays bring the Bible and the newspaper into the same conversation.
